Having
a great birth in Australia is getting harder and less within
reach of the average woman. Normal physiological birth in
Australia is at risk of extinction. Our bodies are still perfectly
designed for birthing our babies, we are still a very healthy
population of women - so what is going on here? Why the alarmingly
high rate of birth interventions and the dangerously high
(and climbing) cesearean section rate?
Birth
options
Or
lack of awareness of them
Or lack of them
We
need to know more about what birth options are available to
us, and what the implications of those birth options are for
us and our ability to birth our babies. We also need more
birth options - many more than are currently funded by our
federal and state health budgets. We need access to birth
options that support our inate ability to birth and our basic
human right of being able to choose how we give birth, with
whom we give birth and where we give birth.
There
are growing numbers of women and men who are stepping up to
the challange and doing their bit in any and every way they
know how to make sure that there will continue to be options
about how, where and with whom Australian women birth their
babies.
There
are many different ways to be involved, and we would love
to have you join us on the journey. If you have purposely
found this page, then we are fairly confident that you have
skills, energy and enthusiasm which we would love to have
on board.
An
updated list of volunteer opportunities will be posted to
this page soon, in the meantime -
Do
you have passion, energy, time and skills to share?
Contact
us at info@birthoptions.org.au
and let us know where you live and what you would like to
see happen in your local area, and in what way you would like
to be involved in Birth Options Association Australia.
We
look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you on board!
